Abstract

The musical composition for The RAF Halton Apprentice Story was created to support the documentary’s exploration of memory, service, and historical legacy. Developed in response to oral history interviews and archival footage, the score was designed to complement the tone and pacing of the film while remaining sensitive to the personal experiences and recollections of former RAF apprentices. The soundtrack accompanies interview and archive sequences throughout the documentary, helping to connect individual testimonies with the wider historical narrative of RAF Halton and its role in the development of the Royal Air Force. Using understated thematic material and atmospheric textures, the music contributes to the reflective and commemorative character of the film. The composition forms part of the wider documentary project led by Dr. Tom McGorrian at Buckinghamshire New University, which combines oral history, archival research, and film practice to document and preserve the stories and contributions of RAF Halton apprentices for public and educational audiences.
