Abstract

Women leaders in higher institutions plays a significant role in changing the culture of higher education, advancement of the equity and the promotion of organizational structures. This study explored the styles of leadership demonstrated by women in higher academic leadership especially in transforming, collaborating and in relational approaches. Also, the study examined how these styles contribute to the development of the institution success. From the existing literature and that of the leadership styles, the study provides highlights on the contribution of women in inclusive leadership, mentorship and innovation of policy. It was also mentioned that apart from the relevance of women in leadership positions, there are still barriers, expectation of the genders and representation at the senior level is quite low. The findings underscore the need for higher institutions to understand the different leadership structures, addressing systemic problems as well as creating the pathways that could help women to be in higher positions. It was concluded that the style of leadership and women contribution are not just the essential part of advancing the institution, but significant for promoting equitable and transformation of adequate educational environment.
