Abstract
Endometriosis is a complex and often misunderstood gynaecological condition that causes chronic pain and significantly affects the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of women. Despite growing awareness and advances in treatment, many still experience long delays before receiving a diagnosis, often feeling dismissed or misunderstood by healthcare professionals. This article discusses the ongoing challenges faced by women living with endometriosis and examines the broader implications of delayed recognition and management. It highlights the physical and psychological burden of pain, the barriers within healthcare systems, and the importance of compassionate and informed clinical practice. Improving education, awareness, and early assessment could transform experiences and outcomes for women with this condition. Nurses play a crucial role in recognising symptoms early, supporting timely referral, and advocating for person-centred care that validates women's experiences.
