Abstract
Every autumn we prepare for the outbreak of influenza, which puts considerable strain on the NHS (Public Health England (PHE), 2016a). As part of an active public health campaign, health professionals are also involved in a flu vaccination campaign. Last winter more people than ever received a vaccination against flu as part of this national programme (Department of Health (DH), 2016). The nurse based in primary care has a key role to play in early recognition and treatment of this disease (Lee and Chuh, 2010).
