Abstract
This commentary is a response to the article 'The two souls of social work: exploring the roots of "popular social work"' by Chris Jones and Michael Lavalette (2013), which raised a number of important insights and questions about the state of social work under conditions of neoliberalism. The commentary raises concerns about the concept 'popular social work' and in particular some of the formulations that the authors have adopted.
